Wrestling star and fledgling actor John Cena has today announced his shock split from WWE diva fiancee, Nikki Bella. The couple were due to marry in just twenty days, and had been engaged for a year after dating for six. Bella, real name Stephanie Garcia-Colace, took to Twitter to announce the split with her twin sisters and fellow Diva, writing: "After much contemplation and six years of being together, Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple. While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives." The news came as a surprise to many fans, as Cena had been vocal about his love for her as recently as last month on the press tour for his new movie Blockers, talking about their plans for the ceremony.
Cena appears to be very upset by the break up, and has posted a series of tweets and instagram posts that appear to detail his feelings. He started by writing "We all have good and bad days. No one is perfect, but if you happen to do something to make someone feel bad, TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY for your actions, APOLOGIZE, and ASK FORGIVENESS", apparently in relation to his personal problems, and then posted a series of photos including a shattered metal heart against a red backdrop, a cryptic quote from Walt Whitman about love and a meme of Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons saying his trademark 'Worst Day Ever'. Fans have been equally devastated by the split, and have been commenting on the posts to speculate that the reason behind the break up is that they hold different opinions on children. One fan wrote "Why don’t you just have children with her!? It’s not like you can afford child care if you both want your own time together. Absolute fool for letting someone you say is the love of your life walk away!!" and another said "John, i know you still love nicole. And im pretty sure she still loves you. I hope you'll get back together. Wish you both happiness."
John, who proposed to Nikki live at Wrestlemania 33, has previously spoken about the pitfalls of maintaining a relationship when you're in the limelight. He admitted last month that they were having "problems" because of their conflicting work schedules, and spoke openly about struggling with his emotions: "I just think I'm OK with myself and I don't carry that self-image of, 'I've got to be tough, I've got to be macho', and I think those vulnerable moments have been generated from female writers and female performers. They need the male to look vulnerable and I don't mind doing that because that is real life, I'm a vulnerable dude a lot in real life."
