It looks like people might finally get to see one of their favourite TV couples wed! While the first half of season 11 was a rough ride with plummeting ratings, and some speculation that the show would soon be cancelled, we were lucky when the second half suddenly picked up. The ratings soared up to higher than before and the show was renewed for a 12th season. At the same time Young Sheldon, the spinoff that focuses on Sheldon Cooper during his early years, is also experiencing sky-high ratings and fantastic success. So overall, the future looks bright for everyone’s favourite sitcom!
Meanwhile the show continues to place a lot of focus on Sheldon and Amy’s relationship, which for many fans is a highlight of the series. The relationship between the two very strange characters has seen Sheldon Cooper develop and grow over the course of the series, while at the same time retaining his core personality in a way that means he hasn’t lost what made him so funny in the first place. After the characters recently became engaged, and season 12 was announced, many fans assumed that wedding bells would be in the future… well, the far future.
Now, however, it looks like it might be coming a lot sooner than expected.
“think you will see a wedding [this season],” exec producer Steve Holland told TVLine. “We haven’t written the finale yet, but we’ve certainly been building to it all season.”
This would strongly imply that fans might be hearing wedding bells during the current 11th season, and that they won’t have to wait all the way until the 12th or possibly even 13th season to see the couple tie the knot.
However, the Steve was keen not to give too much away. And he coyly added (somewhat hedging his bets) the following:
“I can’t promise that we’ll see a wedding at the end of the season, but we’ll certainly be building towards a wedding.”
Which feels a little bit like a man trying to cover his mistake after admitting something he shouldn’t have earlier in the interview.
Fans have been teased about wedding bells in the past, when in last year’s The Confidence Erosion Sheldon and Amy rushed to City Hall for a quick ceremony. The marriage was only put off at the last moment when Sheldon confessed to Amy that there were some parts of the wedding ceremony he didn’t want to miss. Maybe we’ll finally get to see the couple enjoy their first dance this year!
