KV Moitheenkutty, 60, has been arrested after he was caught on camera sexually abusing a child at a cinema local to Edappal, Kerala. The unnamed family are said to have attended the cinema in Southern India to watch a film and Moitheenkutty sat on the far side of the mother, next to the child. The woman was apparently distracted by the film, and the businessman took the opportunity to touch the ten year old before moving on to her parent. Camera footage, suggested to have been from internal security camera's in the cinema, captured the abuse and eagle-eyed cinema bosses were horrified when they saw the clips.

The bosses called children's charity Childline, who then contacted the police, and Moitheenkutty was arrested after a month of investigation. The man is said to own several jewellery stores in the region and is a well-known businessman, but the footage had to be shared on national television before KV was identified as the person in the clips. Once the police arrived at his house, he quickly admitted what he had done, but local authorities have come under fire for failing to act sooner and allowing a full month to pass before catching him. A sub-inspector has been suspended for failing to act sooner, according to Gulf News.

A spokesman for Childline said: "We had checked the entire footage. He was abusing the mother and child at the same time, that took place continuously from the beginning to the end.

We waited till Saturday as we thought that the police should be given time to trace him. Still they didn’t act."
