A builder has been caught on camera attacking and killing a pigeon with his bare hands and mouth. The man, who can be clearly seen in the video and is wearing a high-vis jacket, knocks the bird from a high perch where it was nesting and picking it up from the floor where it lay dazed. He then brings it to his mouth and bites down, ripping its head off and spitting it on the floor before throwing the bird's body down next to it. The bird flaps around desperately in its death throes, before being picked up again so the man can pose for a final set of pictures with it body. The whole time, the man's friends can be heard loudly laughing and cheering through the assault.
There is no indication of where the clip was filmed, but everyone in the video appears to be British and the man's face is clearly visible so he should be easy to identify. The footage has been viewed over 200,000 times through Facebook but he still remains a mystery despite mugging for the camera shouting “Come to daddy" as he pulls the bird from its perch, and complaining "It shit on me" when he throws it to the ground after the attack. Viewers have voiced their disgust at the builder's behaviour, with one user writing: "F*****g sick. He should be arrested for animal cruelty” and another adding “Hope this guy gets ill off the diseases it may have had, the sick person.”
Pigeons have been known to transmit diseases through their droppings, and touching their excretions with your hands are the easiest way to catch something nasty. According to Medical News Today, the most common pathogens which can cause disease transmitted from pigeons to humans are: E. coli, but you can also catch something called Histoplasmosis, a respiratory disease that may be fatal, from a fungus growing in dried bird droppings.
The RSPA have not commented on the video.
