Jurors have heard of how a father shot a man dead then returned home, placed the gun in his son’s hands, and tried to convince him to take the blame for the murder. Matthew Moseley, aged 50, is alleged to have shot 32-year-old Lee Holt on his doorstep after their two sons developed a rivalry. The murder, which took place on the 25th October, was committed using a semi-automatic shotgun on the 25th October 2017.

It’s not clear what initiated the feud but the court heard of how it had sprung up on social media, with both Holt and Moseley threatening one another before suggesting that the pair may meet up for a physical confrontation. Later, witnesses described seeing Lee Holt and his partner, Kate Phelan, banging on Moseley’s window trying to lure him out.
Thomas Mosely, Matthew’s 14-year-old son, was handed the phone by his father as he loaded three cartridges into the shotgun and told to dial 999. Thomas then rang the police and told them there had been a murder while the sound of a shotgun could be heard going off in the background. When police arrived it was Thomas, not Matthew, who admitted to the murder and the 14-year-old boy was arrested.
Police, however, became suspicious when they reviewed the 999 call and realised it would have been impossible for Thomas to dial, speak, then run to Lee’s doorstep before firing the shotgun, before finally returning back to the phone.
It is alleged that Matthew handed the gun to his son after he had shot Lee Holt and told Thomas,
“Tell them you have done it because you can't get done for it.”
When Matthew was arrested he proclaimed his innocence, however police bugged his car and obtained recordings of him telling his son that “he is a minor and cannot go to jail.”
Prosecutors spoke to the court and told them,
“He [Matthew Moseley] went on to say to Thomas, 'self-defence for you, you didn't know what you were doing. Me, different ball game'.”
Matthew also made phone calls after his arrest that seem to confirm his guilt, with him telling his ex-wife,
“I weren't even f*cking aiming. I just picked it up and bang.”
And, just to make it even worse he went on to tell his son Thomas in another phone call,

“They are going for life. You do realise that? They did explain that to you? I will never see you again. I will never, ever get out... because they coerced you into changing your statement.”
I feel comfortable in saying that this guy is a pretty huge scumbag.
