Dodging train fares is a common practice, although it’s often frowned upon. The funny thing though is that most people, at some time in their life, will have done it due to some strange circumstance, so you probably wouldn’t be too surprised to hear someone say,
“I got caught jumping a tube barrier the other day.”
Or you might call it subway if you’re from America, but the principle remains the same. What most of us wouldn’t expect, however, is for that sentence to be very, very, literal.
That’s what happened to one man at Covent Garden Tube station who was “caught” jumping the barriers, except he wasn’t caught by some nearby staff member. No, he was caught by the barrier itself. Or, to be specific, his penis got caught by the barrier after he tried leaping over it like an Olympian on a budget.
“Butter him up,” one of the spectators can be heard shouting as nearby staff members and police work to try and, uh, dislodge the man and his sensitive member from the barrier. It’s clear though that staff members weren’t entirely sympathetic considering that it was one of them who whipped out their phone and began recording. You can watch the footage below, and it’s pretty funny if only because the whole situation is just back-breakingly cringey.
At the end of the clip, having finally had his penis freed from its crushing vice-like prison, the man can be seen leaning against a police officer while recovering from the discomfort. Afterwards he hugs a nearby man who helped him through the ordeal. We can’t help but imagine that must’ve been a pretty whole-hearted hug, given that he must have been in a very painful situation.
Still, many people are taking it as a sign of cosmic karma. Whether or not many of us would admit to doing it once or twice, there’s no shortage of self-righteous internet commenters, and they’ve swarmed the video with claims that it was the man getting his just desserts. He should have bought a ticket, they say, and the fact his penis was grabbed by a mechanical arm and held hostage is the universe’s way of teaching him, and others, to be a little bit more honest.
Or the guy was just unlucky…
Whatever you prefer.
