A Texas woman on trial for the stabbing of her 25-year-old nephew has revealed that she had been having a secret three year affair with the victim. Andira Abdelaziz, 37, told courts that she had been sleeping with Mohammed Abdelaziz for three years, but that the relationship was filled with emotional, mental, and physical abuse during the entire time. She claims that her stabbing of him was an act of self-defence and that she had acted with the need to preserve her own life after he repeatedly hit her and threatened to kill her.
Mohammed, who was a blood relative to Andira’s husband, allegedly sent her texts threatening her before arriving at her property and “pummelling” the windows.
“[He was] calling her the most vile names that I think any person could call another person, describing what he’s going to do to her,” said defence attorney Mike McCrum.

When police arrived having received a 911 call they found Andira answering the door where she claimed nothing was wrong. The police then left but it’s believed that Mohammed was stabbed shortly after she answered the door. When Mohammed was found he was lying on the driveway to Andira’s house with a kitchen knife in his back. He had died as a result of blood loss.
While the defence team have argued that Andira’s actions were driven by the need to protect her own life, and that she was placed under duress by the constant emotional and physical abuse from her nephew, prosecution have argued that Andira committed the murder to keep her behaviour a secret.
“He sent nasty, threatening texts, suggesting he was going to reveal the romantic relationship to family,” Prosecutor Clayton Haden said. “The defendant gave a statement. Not once in that statement does she mention that the victim touched her that day.”
Interestingly, while the prosecution are calling into question why Andira didn’t mention an assault on the day of the murder, her mugshot clearly portrays her with a big black eye. So, unless she gave it to herself, somebody did. On the other hand, the location of the stab wound isn’t exactly doing Andira any favours considering the guy was stabbed in the back which isn’t exactly the easiest place to reach when someone’s punching you in the face.
Guess we’ll just have to wait to see what the outcome of the trial is.
