The lie detector episode is always a fan favourite, and every year we tune in gleefully hoping a few relationships will get torn apart when someone admits they fancy another islander or they think they might have their head turned on the outside. Last night's episode was no exception, as half of the six couples left have hit the skids after the boys revealed some shocking home truths. Alex claimed he'd be happy to take Alexandra back to meet his parents, but the lie detector seemed to disagree causing Alexandra to question their whole relationship which she has always felt more invested in from day one. He also admitted that he felt he could be more compatible with someone outside the villa, and in today's First Look it looks like the make up artist yet again calls things off with the Doctor because she's sick of feeling second best.
Every couple faced a few bumps in the road, including Megan and Wes when Wes revealed he might not be proud to introduce her to his parents (perhaps due to her previous job) and that he'd struggle with all the attention on the outside. He also scored a 'lie' when he said he thought the glamour model was 'wife material', but denied that the test was accurate and instead chose to play it off as an incorrect result. Kaz and Josh and Paul and Laura were pretty plain sailing, but new Laura and Jack hit a snag when Jack admitted that there were other girls in the villa that he thought were better looking than his partner and he might not be able to stay true on the outside. In First Look, new Laura is crying in the beach hut as she struggles to deal with her feelings about the home truths.
Finally, and most controversially, the nation's sweethearts Jack and Dani (or 'Jani', bleurgh) faced their first major struggle when Jack failed to ace the test. Despite telling the truth about being in love with her, and wanting to be with her forever, he also was forced to admit that he had partly chosen to couple with her initially because of who her dad was. The test also exposed the fact that he thought he settled down too soon in the villa, and that he might not remain true on the outside. Dani was shocked and confronted him later that night about the results but Jack reacted defensively and added fuel to the fire, causing their first big row and forcing her to walk away from him and the situation. In tonight's episode, the two have another argument where Jack is seen standing up to leave and saying "I'm going" prompting fans to worry that he might chosen to leave the island like Niall and Samira before him. Let's face it, he's only had eyes for Dani since entering the villa so if she calls things off with him then he's not likely to stick around. We can look forward to some more dull Ofcom complaints if 'the nation's sweetheart' gets her feelings hurt.
